Lichens make soredia to reproduce the lichen body. This is a very fast method of reproduction, and helps insure that the new lichen will survive because both partners are together.
	These images show real soredia on the lichen margin and the lichen surface. These pictures were taken with a high magnifying lens. Each pocket is really smaller than the tip of your pencil lead.
